About the Project

While preserving the original 1939 facade, the library will have a large addition with two new welcoming, accessible entrances. Renovation of the 138,200 SF existing library include HVAC, plumbing and electrical system upgrades and changes to meet current accessibility requirements. The entire library, including the 56,800 SF expansion, will comply with universal design, exceeding the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In addition to terraces and new outdoor spaces, the revamped 24-hour library will contain individual and group study spaces, a maker-space and experimental technology classroom, video and audio/pod-casting studios, lactation space, a cafe and kitchenette, and a lab for the conservation of books and manuscripts.
