About the Project

This new state-of-the-art natatorium features a 50-meter indoor pool, two 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, a 5-meter dive platform, and seating for over 500 spectators. Designed with versatility in mind, the pool can be divided into three sections, enabling diving, water polo, and competitive swimming to happen all at once. What sets this pool apart is its “smart” technology — computer systems ensure precise control of chemical balance and temperature, creating the perfect environment for athletes.

Structural work included unique roof framing with 90″ deep glulam beams spanning over 140’, creating a bright and warm atmosphere and providing a durable roof structure which is critical in the corrosive aquatic environment. The prominent campus location posed the unique challenge of designing a complex structure to span over an active creek which demanded creative solutions of precast concrete construction and deep foundations.

This was the third and final phase of the VMI Corps Physical Training Facility program.
