Gregory C. Ellen, PE

Education:
B.S.C.E., Virginia Military Institute, 1998
M.S.C.E., North Carolina State University, 2000

Greg has been with Dunbar since 2000. While growing up in Richmond, he watched his father and uncles work in the construction industry, so that exposure and his predilection for math encouraged him to pursue a career in engineering.

Greg’s favorite projects have been Dominion Energy Center (formerly Richmond CenterStage) and the Dewey Gottwald Center at the Science Museum of Virginia. During the seven years it took to complete the Dominion Energy Center, he got married to Denise, passed his PE exam, moved to a new home and had his first two daughters. An eventful time, to say the least.

Sports figure prominently in Greg’s life. He’s a Wall of Fame member at his high school. At VMI, he played quarterback, wide receiver and punter on the football team. He still enjoys both playing and watching sports, especially football, basketball, baseball and golf. When he’s not coaching his three daughter’s sports teams, he’s cheering them on from the sidelines. One of his goals is to see all the Major League ballparks at some point during his lifetime – so far he’s seen 14.

Greg is active in a number of professional societies. He is past Secretary of the Board for ACEC Virginia, a founding and current board member of Revit RVA and a member of SEAVa. Greg is a current Elder and past Deacon at his church, Third Church in the west end and is active in numerous ministries there. When he has time to travel, he and Denise’s first stop will be Ireland.
