Tommy Huffman is a Principal in Dunbar’s Richmond office with more than two decades of experience in structural engineering. He leads project teams across a wide range of industries, including healthcare and higher education, guiding each project from concept through construction with a solutions-oriented mindset. His leadership style balances technical rigor with collaboration, ensuring that each project reflects both engineering precision and client vision.
His work includes community-defining projects such as the NOVA Aquatics Center at Regency, a dramatic transformation of an underused retail building into a state-of-the-art competitive swim facility. Tommy also managed the structural design for Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, coordinating closely with architects and contractors to deliver a vital facility for the region.
A graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Tommy holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia. His fascination with how things are built and how they can be improved drew him to structural engineering early on, and he combines problem-solving and creativity to produce meaningful, lasting work.
When he isn’t in the office, Tommy enjoys golf and just about any sport involving a racquet. He is also an enthusiastic supporter of his three daughters’ athletic pursuits and rarely misses a game.
